Oregon paycheck calculator
Oregon taxes wages on four brackets, and the third one starts at a fairly low income, so much of a typical paycheck is taxed at 8.75%. Oregon also lets you subtract part of the federal income tax you pay, and its withholding formula builds that subtraction into every paycheck. Two small payroll deductions, the statewide transit tax and Paid Leave Oregon, apply to nearly every worker.

How Oregon withholds income tax
Employers use the Department of Revenue's withholding formula. It starts from your annual Oregon wages, subtracts the federal income tax withheld from your pay up to a yearly cap, subtracts a standard deduction, applies Oregon's rates, and then takes off a credit for each allowance you claim on Form OR-W-4.
The federal tax subtraction shrinks as pay rises and disappears entirely for single filers earning about $145,000 and married filers earning about $290,000. Allowances also stop counting once wages pass $100,000 for single filers or $200,000 for married filers, matching the income limits for the personal exemption credit on the return.
Oregon wants its own form. The OR-W-4 has three choices: Single (also used by heads of household and married people filing separately), Married, or Married but withhold at the higher single rate. If you give your employer no withholding statement at all, Oregon law requires a flat 8% of wages.
Statewide transit tax and Paid Leave Oregon
Every Oregon resident pays the statewide transit tax, one-tenth of one percent of wages, no matter where they work. A 2026 ballot measure that would have changed the tax did not pass, so the rate stays the same.
Paid Leave Oregon is funded by a contribution on wages up to the Social Security wage base. Employees pay 60% of it, and employers with 25 or more employees pay the other 40%. Pre-tax health premiums through a cafeteria plan are excluded, but 401(k) contributions are not. Unemployment insurance is paid only by employers.
Portland-area income taxes: Metro SHS and Preschool for All
Residents of the Metro regional government's district in the Portland region pay a 1% Supportive Housing Services tax on taxable income above a high threshold, and Multnomah County residents also pay the Preschool for All tax, which has two tiers. Both are figured on your Oregon taxable income and filed on separate local returns.
Employers must withhold these taxes automatically for employees who earn $200,000 or more in the year, using a formula that ignores filing status. Employees can opt in or out of withholding, or choose a different amount, with the combined Metro and Multnomah County opt-in/opt-out form. Preschool for All rates go up starting in 2027.
TriMet and Lane Transit District taxes are separate payroll taxes paid by employers; they are not withheld from your paycheck.
Bonuses and other supplemental pay
When a bonus, commission or other supplemental payment is made separately from your regular paycheck, Oregon lets employers withhold a flat 8% instead of running it through the formula.

Questions people ask
What are the Oregon income tax brackets for 2026?
Oregon has four rates: 4.75%, 6.75%, 8.75% and 9.9%. Single filers reach the 8.75% bracket above $11,400 of taxable income and 9.9% above $125,000; joint and head of household filers reach them above $22,800 and $250,000.
What is the Oregon statewide transit tax?
It is a 0.1% tax on wages that your employer withholds from every paycheck. It applies to Oregon residents wherever they work and to nonresidents working in Oregon, with no wage cap.
How much is Paid Leave Oregon taken out of my paycheck?
Employees pay 60% of the 1% contribution, or 0.6% of wages, on wages up to $184,500 in 2026. Employers with 25 or more employees pay the remaining 40%.
Does Oregon let me deduct federal income tax?
Yes, up to a yearly limit that phases out at higher incomes. The 2026 withholding formula subtracts up to $8,750 of federal tax withheld, which lowers your Oregon withholding.
Do I have to pay the Portland Metro and Multnomah County income taxes?
Only if your Oregon taxable income is above the thresholds and you live in the Metro district or Multnomah County (or earn income there). Employers automatically withhold once your wages reach $200,000, and you can opt in earlier.
What is Oregon's bonus tax rate?
Employers may withhold a flat 8% on bonuses and other supplemental wages paid separately from your regular pay.
